MIXED FARMERS
“ VASSELS OF STOCK AGENTS N GOVERNMENT CONTROL SUGGESTED ; (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, July 11. i “ Until this Government takes over the handling of - the stock and station agencies and all, lending business the country will be up to its eyes in mortgages," said Mr C. L. Carr (Govt., Timaru) when speaking in the Address-in-Reply debate in the House of Representatives to-night, Commending the guaranteed ice system, Mr Carr said that while sie dairy farmers were experiencing a degree of practical socialism owing to their distribution and exchange being socialised, the mixed farmers were without that assistance and were simply vassals of the stock and station agencies. | r , v Referring to a claim by Mr J. A. Roy (Opposition, Clutha) that farm labour to-day was inefficient, Mr Carr said if that were so it was certainly not the fault of the Government. Even the Leader of the Opposition (Mr A. Hamilton) had admitted that to man was forced to work anywhere he did not want to go, and the Government was actually encouraging efficiency in farm labour through the subsidy scheme.
