MAIDEN SPEECH
MR F. W. DOIDGE IMPRESSES TELLING CRITICISM OF GOVERNMENT (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, July 11, The " star turn ” of to-day’s sitting of the House of Representatives, when six more speakers contributed to the Address-in-Reply debate, was undoubtedly the maiden speech of Mr F, W. Doidge (Opposition, Tauranga). Slow to warm up, he later went particularly well, and, choosing his subjects carefully, he made some telling points at the expense of the Government. Mr Doidge’s various attempts to enter politics before he actually managed it, however, provided Mr A. G, Osborne (Govt.. Onehunga), who followed him, with material for sorre amusing quotations, and Mr Osborne made full use of Mr Doidge’s reported statements, chiefly with reference to some members of the House who are now his colleagues. Other speakers were Mr J. A. Roy (Opposition, Clutha), who advanced some sound arguments, Mr C, L. Carr (Govt., Timaru), Mr L. G. Lowry (Govt.. Otaki) and Mr A, F. Moncur Govt.. Rotorua). The House rose at 10.30 p.m, until to-rnorrow afternoon.
