WORK OF SOCIETY COMMITTEE'S MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the committee of the Dunedin Amenities Society was held yesterday afternoon ir, the Chamber of Commerce board room, and was attended by Messrs Crosby Morris (in the chair), G. Crow, J. McGeorge, H. P. West, C. V. Smith, J. S. Thomson, G. Simpson, C. O. McKellar, S. P. Cameron, R. Fountain, W. J. Birrell, J. L. Salmond, D. Tannock, and J. Ash, Mesdames Mackie, Begg, and H. L. Cook. Corporation Plantations Reporting on behalf of a subcommittee set up to make inquiries, Mr Crow said that there appeared to be little danger of the City Corporation's plantations encroaching on native bush on the FlagstaffWhare Flat road. Mr Tannock explained that it was not proposed to plant trees in front of the bush. In all its tree-planting operations the City Corporation was careful to interfere as little as possible with indigenous trees. The report was received. Membership Campaign Mr Ash reported on the committee's campaign for increased membership, and outlining the steps that had been taken to encourage new members to join the society, stated that 400 enrolment forms had been sent out. It was decided to ask the society's collector to call on those to whom forms had been sent. Seats at St. Clair Advice was received from the town clerk, Dunedin, that the society's offer to provide four seats at the children's playground at St. Clair had been accepted, and that the matter of placing "them had been referred to the superintendent of reserves for attention.—Received.

Clearing City Reserves Replying to representations by the committee regarding the quantities of broom and gorse on city reserves, the town clerk, Dunedin, wrote that the Reserves Committee of the City Council had had this matter under consideration for some time, and that approval for the employment of scheme 13 labour on this work had now been granted by the Labour Department. As a result, 19 men would commence work in the Moi-nington area on Monday next. The letter was received, the chairman remarking that the council's action was very satisfactory. General Replying to representations made by the committee, the town clerk, Dunedin, wrote stating that damage to native bush in Fraser's Gully had not been caused by the city corporation's workmen, but by men who were erecting a power line, who had, of necessity, to clear a certain portion of the bush. —Received. • Acceptance of the committee's offer to contribute £lO towards the cost of preparing a flower plot and path on the corner of the ground opposite the main entrance to the Botanic Gardens and the planting of three limes in the reserve at the corner of Anzac avenue and Hanover street, was notified by the town clerk, Dunedin. The superintendent of reserves had been instructed to proceed with the necessary work. — received. It was decided to write to the City Council asking it to erect a rough concrete seat on the Whare Flat road overlooking the Taieri Plain, the society to give three bags of cement towards the work.
