NON-TITLE BOUT MUDGWAY BEATS CALTAUX «Peb United Press association' WANGANUI, July 10. In a non-title bout to-night N. Mudgway. welter-weight champion of New Zealand, beat Vic Caltaux, Auckland, on points. The bout was marked by solid boxing, and although Caltaux was the aggressor in the ■ opening rounds, Mudgway soon measured him up and secured a useful lead. WELTER-WEIGHT CONTEST BAKER BEATS DAVIS <Peb United Press Association! INVERCARGILL, July 10. Dick Baker 10.3 (Invercargill) beat Jack Davis 10.7 (Hastings) on points in a 10-round professional welterweight boxing contest to-night. Davis won the early rounds, but Baker took the lead over the last three rounds and punished Davis at the finish. Baker was down for the count of eight in the second round, and Davis was knocked down for one in the last round. Davis's ruggedness saved him from being knocked out. The decision met with a mixed reception. PARRIS v. JENKIN The contest on Saturday night at His Majesty's Theatre between Billy Parris and Stan Jenkin is creating a lot of interest among boxin<? enthusiasts, and opinions concerning the result appear to be evenly divided. Both boxers have shown considerable improvement in their more recent bouts, and the' indications are that the "house full" sigh will be posted early on Saturday night. Jenkin holds both the middle and cruiser-weight titles. The semi-finals of the open and novice tournament will also be staged, and as 17 bouts will be fought, a start will be made at 7 o'clock.
