LARGE SHARK HOOKED

EXCITING ENCOUNTER FISHERMAN'S EXPERIENCE An exciting 15 minutes was experienced by Mr and Mrs A Shepherd of Kawakawa, when they hooked a lUn shark while fishing off Nobby, a point between Russell and Opua. The shark, which was of the reremai variety quickly took the bait from a light line and Mr Shepherd immediately put out a heavier line and more attractive bait, which was accepted within a few moments. Mrs Shepherd was pulled into the water during the shark's frantic effort to escape, the fish then made a dash round to the side, the line catching the eight-year-old daughter of Mr Shopherd and tipping her also into the water. Mr Shepherd, who had gone ashore to get two large pieces of wood, to attach to the end of the line, was able to rescue his wife and daughter from the water. The shark eventually was captured. It was weighed at Russell, and turned the scale at more than 2001 b.
