NEW SEASON'S DATES IN SOUTHLAND

(Special to Daily Times) INVERCARGILL, May 15. The fact that Easter next year falls much earlier than usual is likely to cause some congestion when dates for the 1939-40 racing season's fixtures are being allotted. The Gore Racing Club has applied for February 24 and 26 for its summer meeting, but it is understood that a change may be made with the Dunedin Jockey Club, which has aonlied for February 9 and 11. The Otautau Racing Club which usually races a week before the Riverton Easter meeting, now finds that its proposed date of March 16 will clash with the annual fixture of the Wyndham Trotting Club. The Winton and Gore clubs have not always been in agreement about the respective dates of their summer meetings, and it is understood that this question will be discussed at a conference of the two clubs.

The Southland District Committee has recommended the following dates for the 1939-40 season for consideration by the Dates Committee at the New Zealand Racing Conference to be held in Wellington in July:— October 21 and 23.—Gore Racing Club (spring meeting), November 18.—Southland Racing Club (spring meeting). January I.—Wyndham Racing Club. January 2 and 3.—Southland Racing Club (summer meeting). February 16 and 17.—Winton Jockey Club. February 24 and 26.—Gore Racing Club (summer meeting). March 9.—Birchwood Hunt. March 16.—Otautau Racing Club. March 23. 25. and 26.—Riverton Racing Club. April 6.—Clifden Racing Club. May 11.—Southland Racing Club (winter meeting). THE KING'S NEPHEWS SUCCESSFUL TIPSTERS THREE GOOD WINNERS (From Our Own Correspondent) LONDON, May 1. Racegoers have been paying some attention to the tips given by the King's nephews. Viscount Lascelles and the Hon. Gerald Lascelles, sons of Lord Harewood 'and the Princess. Royal. In their newspaper, the Harewood News, they completed a hat trick. They tipped Kipling, which won at 100 to 30 at Newmarket, Carnival Boy, which won at 100 to 7 at the same meeting, and Rockfel. which won at 4 to 1 on. For the One Thousand Guineas they mentioned Galatea II (which proved to be the winner) for a minor place, and Aurora, which finished second. Their tip for the Derbv is Heliopolis.
