SUSPECT FREED
FINGERPRINTS BY CABLE Fingerprint evidence, cabled from Australia, caused Hyman Richard Diamond to be set free at a London police court the other day. It proved that he was not the man the police alleged him to be. Diamond, an estate agent, was remanded in custody in the name of John Woolcott Forbes, charged, as a " fugitive," with conspiracy to defraud in Sydney, Australia. He then told the magistrate: " This is a scandalous state of affairs. My name is Diamond, and I have never been known by any other name. I hold credentials from the Premier of the State." Mr John Maude, who appeared for Diamond, admitted the police could not be blamed. He called evidence, in addition to the fingerprints. to show that Diamond was not Forbes. One witness, Mr Ronald William Mackay, a solicitor, said he had known Diamond since 1915. Diamond was discharged.
