OFFICIAL FORECAST IMPROVED CONDITIONS PROBABLE The following is the official weather forecast: — An anti-cyclone still extends across the North Tasman Sea to beyond northern New Zealand, but pressure is relatively low in the south and a westerly type of weather persists. Indications are for:— Winds.—Moderate to strong, southwest to westerly winds, reaching gale force at times in some exposed positions, later turning north-westerly in places. Seas.—New Zealand waters: Rather rough to rough on the West Coast and about Cook and Foveaux Straits, elsewhere slight to moderate. -Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong, southwest to westerly winds: seas rather rough to rough. Weather.—Mainly fair in eastern districts, but cloudy to overcast in districts with a westerly aspect and in the far south, with occasional rain; temperatures moderate to mild. WEATHER IN DUNEDIN The weather in Dunedin yesterday was overcast and showery. The temperature was mild in the morning, but a freshening southerly breeze, accompanied by frequent drizzling showers, caused the thermometer to drop from its maximum of 62 degrees to 55 degrees at mid-day. Th* barometric pressure rose gradually until, at midnight, a reading of 30.05 inches was recorded. CONDITIONS IN THE NORTH
(Special to Daily Times) AUCKLAND, May 12. Conditions were showery to-day, with a light to moderate south-west wind, the maximum temperature being 63 degrees. The barometric pressure was fairly steady, with a reading at 5 p.m. of 30.15 inches (1021 millibars).
WELLINGTON, May 12. The weather to-day was cloudy in the afternoon, but otherwise fine and |mild, with a light to moderate westerly breeze. The maximum temperature was 63.8 degrees. At 3 p.m. the barometer reading was 1011.9 millibars (29.882 inches). CHRISTCHURCPL May 12. The weather to-day was fine and warm, although cloudy, with a moderate north-west wind which by nightfall showed signs of changing to a southerly. The maximum temperature during the day was 70 degrees. At 5 p.m. the barometer was steady at 29.706 inches.
