INTOXICATED DRIVER
CRASH ON BRIDGE PRISON TERM IMPOSED (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 12. Arrested on the night of May 4 after a collision on Grafton Bridge, Auckland, Cecil Philpott Crespin, aged 26, a wool buyer, was charged in the Police Court with being in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motor car. Counsel entered a plea of guilty. The police said that Crespin's car suddenly turned sharply to the right and struck a motor car driven by a tramwayman. Ten, minutes later a police sergeant arrived and found Crespin unsteady on his feet and showing other signs of intoxication. A doctor certified that he was intoxicated. Defending counsel said that Crespin was not addicted to drink. He felt that he was quite capable of driving the car, but was dazzled by the bright lights of the other car. Mr F. H. Levien, S.M.. sentenced Crespin to seven days' imprisonment, and disqualified him from driving for two years.
