RUMOUR SCOTCHED
POSTPONEMENT OF EXHIBITION GENERAL MANAGER’S DENIAL (Special to Daily Times) WELLINGTON, May 11. The directors of the Centennial Exhibition are perturbed by the circulation, particularly in the north, of unfounded rumours that the exhibition may have to be postponed for a year. An emphatic denial that this was so was given to-day by the general manager (Mr C. P. Hainsworth), who said the preparations for the Exhibition had advanced to such a stage that there was no possibility of postponement, unless in the event of war or national emergency. Mr Hainsworth said it had come to the ears of the Exhibition directors that it was common talk in certain parts of New Zealand that the Exhibition would have to be postponed for at least 12 months. Such talk was ridiculous and wholly unfounded. There was absolutely no reason why the Exhibition should be postponed, and the very idea had never been discussed by the management or the directors. “There is no truth in these rumours whatsoever,” Mr Hainsworth said. “ There has never been any thought of postponing the Exhibition. We are going ahead steadily with our preparations. and the work has reached the stage where we cannot conceivably draw back from our undertakings. The Exhibition will most certainly open as originally planned on November 8.”
