STUDENT SATIRE
UNIVERSITY CAPPING CONCERT The students of the University can always to be relied upon to provide entertaining and amusing fare in their annual capping concert, and this year’s ' production at His Majesty’s Theatre is no exception. Last night’s audience was not slow to appreciate the subtle shafts launched at local and international celebrities. A'ho came in for perhaps more than the usual amount of attention, while it thoroughly enioved the burlesque and humour with which the programme abounds. The totalitarian leaders and their methods gave the performers plenty of opportunity for bright satire.. and the students made the most of It. while local personalities did not escape criticism. The sextet, always a feature of the capping concerts, was again a pronounced success and out over some bright, if harmless, topical comment. Of the two farces “Merry Munich" or " Totalitarian Trumpery." is perhaps the better, being an admirable satire on the ways of dictators, but “Bled White by the Sewn Dafts.” which gains its background from a recent film success, combines both international and local politics wih success. The ballet was a delightfully droll combination and made an instant hit with “ Dreamy Rhythm ” and “ Selwynzarde,” both numbers being “ cribbed ” to good effect from the repertoire of the Russian Ballet. The interludes wers as snappy as ever among the best being “Bedside Mannir," “Yes Men,’ and “ Mumbo Jumbo." The staging of the features was a notew irthy part of the production, which will be repeated to-night and to-morrow night.
