GERMANS IN MOROCCO

ACTIVITY INCREASING LONDON, May 5. The Tangier correspondent of the Daily Telegraph, who has just toured Spanish Morocco, was the first English journalist there for many months. He says there is no fear of an immediate attempt to invade Tangier by force, but, in the event of a general war, it would immediately become a very important objective. “More than 30,000 Spanish and Moorish troops recently returned to Morocco,” he says. “ Sometimes soldiers can be heard in the streets shouting, ‘Now for Tangier,’ and ‘ Tangier belongs to Spain.’

“ German activity is increasing. German aeroplanes are landing several times a week, bringing ‘ technicians,’ of whom some remain and some leave after a few days. Forty of these men were officially stated to be members of a kinematograph unit. Fortifications are being built at Larache and elsewhere near the French Moroccan frontier. “An incalculable factor in the German and Spanish schemings is the Moor, since it is questionable whether the Spanish Moor would fight the French Moor.”
