ELDERLY MAN’S DEATH DOG REMAINS BESIDE BODY (Per United Press Association) DARGAVILLE, May 11. Robert Francis Hemphill, a widower, of Tangowahine, over 70 years of age, went shooting on Sunday and did not return. In response to a call, between 40 and 50 settlers engaged in a search, and the body was lound about noon to-day. The" deceased’s sporting dog was sitting alongside the body. PEDESTRIAN INJURED STRUCK BY MOTOR CAR (Per United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, May 11. Serious injuries were suffered by a pedestrian when he was struck by a car on the main road on the Christchurch side of the Styx overhead bridge to-night. Two of the o'ccupants of the car were also injured. The pedestrian was John William Campbell, address unknown, who suffered compound fractures of both legs in addition lo head injuries. The injuries of the men in the car were not serious. DISTRICT NURSE INJURED INVOLVED IN MOTOR COLLISION (Per United Press Association) GISBORNE, May 11. In a collision at Motuhora between a car and truck. Sister A. Pritchard, the district nurse, was seriously injured yesterday. The tray of the lorry stripped the windscreen and hood clear of the driver's seat and the car was reduced to wreckage. The injured woman was conveyed 40 miles to hospital. WIDOWER FOUND DEAD George Woodland, a widower, aged 67 years, who resided at 47 Grange street, North Dunedin, was found dead at his home yesterday morning. A tube, which had been disconnected from a gas ring and from which gas was escaping, was lying across his chest. An inouest will be opened this morning.
