WAR DAYS RECALLED

ARTILLERYMEN FOREGATHER SUCCESSFUL REUNION About 250 former members of the New Zealand Field Artillery who served overseas during the Great War met again in a highly successful reunion which was held in the Pioneer Hall on Saturday night. Former artillerymen from all parts of the South Island and one or two from the North Island were present. The evening was spent pleasantly in renewing old friendships, and in meetings between former comrades, some of whom had not seen each other since demobilisation.

Lieutenant-colonel J. G. Jeffery presided, and the guest of the evening was Lieutenant-colonel N. S. Falla, of Wellington, who received a rousing reception.

Toasts to “ Fallen Comrades ” and “ The Regiment of Artillery ” were proposed by Lieutenant A. N. Haggitt and Major W. E. Earnshaw respectively, and the latter toast was responded to by Lieutenant-colonel R. E. Sleight, N.Z.A.

In a short address, Colonel Falla recalled his early association with the famous B Battery in Dunedin. He said that to-day they were living in a world of change, which meant a challenge, and when that involved a challenge to their freedom he was sure that the young New Zealanders of to-day could face up to the position with just a great fortitude as their fathers had done.

Songs were sung by Messrs W. N. Sattterthwaite and G. Ansell, and an efficient orchestra contributed largely to the evening’s enjoyment.
