MORNINGTON TRAM SERVICE

TO THE EDITOR

Sir, —Wishing to visit Wakari Hospital on Sunday afternoon by bus leaving the Octagon at 2.15 p.m., I was at the Maryhill tram terminus in time to catch a bus to connect. After waiting about 20 minutes, and no time table being available, I inquired at a nearby shop, and was informed the first bus did not leave the terminus* until 2 o’clock. It being too late to walk, and in any case not being well enough, I had no alternative but to return home. Walking round to the Elgin road bus terminus, en route I saw three people who had apparently been waiting for a bus to move off after a last look down the road. As two

of them were carrying brown paper bags, I expected that they, too, had intended visiting a hospital. As it happened, there was a time table here which informed me the first bus left at 2.2 p.m. Now, as the visiting hours at the hospital are from 2 to 3 on Sunday afternoon, and as the rest of the suburbs of city tramways are catered for by a tram service starting in time to meet the needs of the people visiting that institution, can you tell me why Mornington, one of the largest, if not the largest suburb of the city, is so neglected that if its residents wish to visit the hospital, on a Sunday afternoon, and wish to be on time, they have to walk?—l am, etc Disgusted.
