HIGH AWARD
ENGINEERING EXAMINATION YOUNG STUDENT’S SUCCESS (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Jan. 25. A young New Zealander, in. Alexander Dennistoun-Wood, of Wellington, has been awarded a studentship examination prize by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, London. The award was made in recognition of the excellent standard of his marks. It is believed that this is the first time such an award has been made to a student in this Dominion. Notification was received recently from the Institution that Mr Dennis-toun-Wood had passed^the studentship examination, as weir as part 2 of section A of the associate membership examination held last October. Such was the standard of bis marks that the Institution decided to award him a prize to take the form of books or instruments suitably inscribed. Mr Dennistoun-Wood was educated, at Wellesley College, Wellington, where he was dux. and passed the University Entrance examination at the age of 14. He is at present taking evening classes at the Hutt Valley Memorial Technical College, and is apprenticed to the engineering department of New Zealand Motor Bodies, Limited. Petone. He is the younger son of Mr and Mrs W. Dennistoun-Wood. a grandson of the late Mr J Dennistoun-Wood. K.C.. of Tasmania, and a great-nephew of Dr C. Lemon, of Wellington, who first generated electricity in New Zealand and played a prominent part m the designing and laying of the. Cook Strait cables.
