THE STOCK MARKETS
DEPRESSED IN EUROPE SEVERAL ADVERSE FACTORS (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, Jan. 24. Apart from the Berlin bourse, which is firm, European stock markets are depressed owing to international apprehensions. The Dutch and Swiss bourses are especially weak. Wall street’s nervousness is another factor, to which is added the news of fresh military preparations in Germany, the fears of the new German economic measures, and the anticipated repercussions owing to General Franco’s nearness to Barcelona. The Paris bourse yesterday closed with * the lowest day. The London Stock Exchange had the sharpest falls in all sections since the September crisis, although it rallied slightly at the close. The Bombay Stock Exchange was closed to-day, partly owing to bearish advices from abroad.
