OFFICIAL FORECAST MORE RAIN DEVELOPING The following is the official weather forecast: — Yesterday’s depression has passed eastward, but a new and extensive one now covers south-eastern Australia, and should be affecting the South Island to-day. There are slight indications also that a disturbance is developing north of Norfolk Island. Indications are for:— Winds.—Moderate to strong, westerly or south-westerly predominating at first, but a change to north-westerlies or northerlies advancing from the south, and north-westerlies reaching gale force later in places south of New Plymouth aiuLNapier. Seas.—New Zealand waters: Rough south of Clpe Egmont and becoming rough in Cook Strait; otherwise slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light westerly winds and slight seas in the northern portion and freshening northerly winds with moderate but rising seas in the southern portion. Weather.—Some showers about Foveaux Strait, but otherwise weather mainly fair, clouding over, however, in districts with a westerly aspect, with rain developing in Westland and the far south, and probably becoming more general after 12 to 24 hours; temperatures cold in the south, but otherwise mild to warm. WEATHER IN DUNEDIN Unsettled weather was experienced In Dunedin yesterday, occasional showers, accompanied by an increasing and gusty south-west wind prevailing during the day. The maximum temperature was 65 degrees, and the barometer, although low, showed a rising tendency, the reading at midnight being 29.50 inches. Dull weather with showers in the afternoon was experienced at Auckland, the wind being fresh from the south-west. The maximum temperature was 70 degrees. The barometric pressure fell slightly during the day, the reading at 5 p.m. being 29.60 inches.

WELLINGTON, Jan. 13,

A beautiful summer’s day was experienced to-day with some cloud at times in the afternoon. There was a moderate north-westerly breeze. The minimum temperature last night was 55 degrees and the maximum to-day 70.2 degrees. At 3.30 p.m. the barometer registered 29.318 inches, CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 13. *

The morning was fine and clear, with a light north-easterly wind, which continued throughout the day. At midday the sky clouded over and there was intermittent sunshine till 4 p.m., when rain, preceded by a mild thunderstorm, began. The maximum temperature was 65 degrees. The barometer rose slowly to 29.38 inches at 5 p.m.
