NICOLA THE GREAT
THE INDIAN ROPE TRICK Sir Benjamin Fuller will present thejGreat Nicola in Dunedin at His Majesty’s Theatre next Wednesday, but with the special announcement that this it to be Nicola’s farewell tour, as the magician has definitely determined to make this his last and final tour of the principal cities of the world. For over 25 years Nicola has been touring the world, and during his travels has succeeded in unravelling some of the hitherto baffling mysteries of the fakis, voo-
doos, sorcerers, and witch doctors in the remote corners of the globe. Nicola is said to have been the first white man to penetrate into the secret archives of the Hindu Society of Fakirs, and has the distinction of being the only non-Hindu to have received an honorary degree from this world-famous cult of mystery.
One of the many new illusions that Nicola will present on his forthcoming tour will be the, reproduction of the famous “ Indian Rope Tnck.” Travellers have long been telling about this feat of Hindu sorcery, but none has ever been found that could swear that they had actually seen this phenomenon—they have always heard it described by others that claimed to have seen it. Now comes Nicola with the announcement that he has definitely solved the problem, and he will reproduce this spectacular feat at His Majesty’s Theatre. To those who are not familiar with this mystery, a brief description follows. A coil of rope is thrown up in the air, where, by some mysterious power, the rope remains suspended. Next, a small boy is mysteriously produced from the magic bag; the youth is seen to climb up the unsupported rope, and. when mid-way up the rope, he vanishes right before the eyes of the audience. The rope fells down and is passed round for examination.
