Reports ol meetings ot branches are requested, but they should be furnished promptly, for the publication of reports that are not supplied within a week from the date of the meeting cannot be nromised
The first meeting for the year of the Dunedin Institute was held on Wednesday last, Miss Wilson presiding. The roll-call was “Imitate a bird or beast.” On behalf of the members Miss Bell presented the gift of a fountain pen to Mrs Stone, a member who will leave shortly for England.
Miss Stenhouse gave a humorous read-
ing on “ gardening." The prize for “ best buttonhole" was won by Miss Mclntosh, a special prize being awarded to Mrs Bell. The other competitions resulted:—Lettuce salad—Mrs Stone 1. Miss Bloomfield 2; nut and raisin loaf— Mrs Chaston 1, Mrs Stone 2. The hostesses were Mesdames Pringle, Matheson, and Campbell,' and Misses I. and N. Pringle.
