COLLEGE BECOMES ROYAL , (From Our Own Correspondent) - (By Air Mail) LONDON, Dec. 20. By command of the King, the British College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists will be known as the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. ' , . ■■ ~ The college was founded to provide a thorough training for maternal welfare work. Members of the medical profession, who for many years bad been greatly concerned at the undiminishing figures of maternal mortality, formed the college. The purchase of its present building in Queen Anne, -street, W., was made possible .by an anonymous benefactor who lent the college the money necessary. ■ The Queen, then the Duchess o£ York, opened the new headquarters in December, 1932. • To mark their appreciation of the effort to pool the knowledge of all women specialists in the Empire and the better training of doctors in maternal welfare, the Duke and the Duchess became honorary fellows of the college. The president is Professor W. Fletcher Shaw.
