(From Our Own Correspondent) (By Air Mail) LONDON, Dec. 21. Stated to have been first convicted 60 years ago, Walter Stanton, aged 76,' commission agent, was at the London Sessions sentenced to 21 7 months’ hard labour for stealing £l5O by means of a confidence trick. Mr Vernon Gattie, prosecuting, said Stanton represented to a Mr John Best Potter that he had backed a horse on his own behalf and on behalf of Mr P’otter, and had won a considerable sum, to get which they would have to produce £2OO to the authorities of a club. Mr Potter gave Stanton £l5O. . ■ Detective Evans said Stanton had 27 previous convictions, including two terms of penal servitude for larceny. He had served sentences in France, Germany, arid New Zealand.
