THE RIMUTAKA
DUE AT AUCKLAND TODAY RETURN OF NURSES FROM SPAIN t (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, Jan. 13. After an unfortunate first voyage marred by a fire early this week, which caused severe damage to a portion of the general cargo stowed in the No. 3 hold, the New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Rimutaka will arrive from London early tomorrow morning, and will move alongside the Queen’s wharf at 8 o’clock. The Rimutaka, an oil-burning steamer of 16,600 tons gross, is commanded by Captain Lamb. Included in the 285 passengers on board are a number of notable visitors, and there is also a group of seven medical men under appointment to the New Zealand Government to strengthen the staffs of the mental hospitals. A gathering of welcome will be held on the wharf by the New Zealand Spanish Medical Aid Committee to mark the return of Sister Shadbolt, of Auckland, and Nurse Dodd, of Wellington, who have been attached to the International Brigade in Spain for a period of 21 months. A quantity of text books, valued at £ 600, is being brought by the liner to the order of the St. John Ambulance. The books comprise 20,000 volumes on preliminary first aid intended for use in the schools throughout New Zealand, and also 3000 ordinary first-aid books.
