MR MONTAGU NORMAN
A VISIT TO BERLIN THREAT FROM GERMANY LONDON, Jan. 13. (Received Jan, 14, at 0.15 a.m.) The Daily Herald alleges that Mr Montagu Norman, governor of the Bank of England, went to Berlin because of a threat by Germany to
force a crisis among a group of British private banks and close the Bank of England by renouncing £40,000,000 of short-term loans owing by Germany unless Dr Schacht’s refugee plan was supported. The journal adds:—“Mr Norman is likely to try to launch a deal for assisting German export trade, with the ostensible object of helping Jews to emigrate.”
