OFFICIAL FORECAST SQUALLY AND CHANGEABLE The following is the official weather' forecast: — An anti-cyclone is still located over the North Tasman Sea, but a deep depression has moved on to the Dominion, and is being followed by a series of rapidly-moving secondaries advancing from the south-west. Indications are for:— Winds.—Varying between nor{h-west and south-west, but with north of west predominating in the North Island, and south of west in the South Island, later becoming more generally southwesterly; force strong, With gales at times south of New Plymouth and Napier. Seas.—New Zealand waters:. Rough on the west coast south of Taranaki and about Cook and Foveaux Straits; elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong winds between north-west and south-west, with gales in the southern portion; seas moderate in the north, otherwise rough.. Weather.—Squally and rather changeable, and generally showery on the west coast south of Taranaki and In Southland and Otago; otherwise mainly fair to cloudy, but occasional showers probable in most districts; temperatures cold in the south, warm at times east of the ranges, but otherwise moderate to mild. WEATHER IN DUNEDIN Pleasant, sunny weather was experienced in Dunedin yesterday, although there was a fairly strong wind from the south-west. The maximum temperature was C 8 degrees, and the barometer was unsteady throughout the day, but was rising slowly at midnight, when the reading was 29.35 in. The weather was dull but fine to-day. the wind being fresh, moving during the day from west to north-west. The maximum temperature was 75 degrees. The barometric pressure fell steadily and the reading at 5 p.m. was 29.76 in.

WELLINGTON, Jan. 12. A squally north-westerly gale with driving, misty rain from 7 a.m. till 10 a.m. was followed by a mild, sunny afternoon. The minimum temperature last night was 53.8 degrees, and the maximum to-day 68.8 degrees. At 3.30 p.m. the barometer registered 29.277 in and was falling. GHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 12.

The weather was fine and sunny today. In the morning the wind was light and variable, but a fresh northeasterly blew in the afternoon. The maximum temperature was 77.3 degrees. The barometer fell slightly to 29.28 in at 5 p.m.
