FOR SMOKERS ONLY?
TO THE EDITOR Sir, —When visiting your city recently, on entering a crowded tramcar I sat in the only unoccupied seat, which happened to' be in the rear of the car. I was astonished when I was reprimanded by the conductor for being there, and informed that this seat was reserved for smokers. I searched in vain for a notice which would have informed me of this fact, and thus saved my embarrassment. I therefore vacated my seat, which was taken immediately by a gentleman while I stood in the adjoining compartment. As I have found the people of Dunedin very courteous, I thought it my duty to make this fact known so that others might be saved this experience. May I respectfully suggest that a noti-e be posted in a conspicuous place in the trams stating that this platform is reserved for the use of gentlemen smokers. —I am. etc., Lady Visitor.
