The Middlemarch Institute gave a delightful "at home" on Friday last in honour of Mrs Stuart, for many years president of the institute's link in Lanochshire, Scotland, and at present on a tour of New Zealand. Mrs Aubrey, the president, welcomed the guest and expressed pleasure at having a visitor from the Homeland. Mrs Stuart, in reply, thanked the members for their welcome and gave a brief outline of the work of the Women's Institutes at Home, as well as answering a number of questions. The afternoon was spent in games and competitions.

¥ * * The January meeting of the Tuapeka Mouth Institute took the form of a picnic, which was held at "Sunny Braes," the residence of Mr and Mrs James, whose flower garden was much admired. The following are the results of the various competitions:— Married men's event, Mr Lucas 1, Mr Blair 2; single men, Mr J. Tappin 1, Mr Keenan 2; married ladies' event, Mrs G. Houliston 1, Mrs Latimer 2; single ladies, Miss M. Blair 1, Miss P. Blair 2; girls' event (under 16), Miss Latimer 1, Miss G. Latimer 2. There were numerous events for the children.
