The animals had been lying alongside a fence which had evidently conducted lightning during the storm. This is believed to be the first occasion on which any serious damage has resulted from lightning in' that district. Good hauls of fish have been reported from North Auckland beaches this season, not only on the west coast, but also on the east coast. Along the Ninety Mile Beach some very large catches have been made. Flounder, mullet, and schnapper have been included in the catches.
