AVALANCHE IN FRANCE EIGHT SKIERS BURIED RECOVERY OF BODIES (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph— Copyright) LONDON. Jan. 9. (Received Jan. 9, at 11.30 p.m.) The Paris correspondent of The Times says that an avalanche on Grand Galibier, near Greenoble, fatally buried eight skiers, including the' parliamentary secretary to the president of the Senate. Search parties, working at the risk of their lives under a mass of overhanging snow, recovered five bodies.
AUSTRALIAN NEWS PORT KEMBLA DISPUTE CONFERENCE ARRANGED SYDNEY. Jan. 9. (Received Jan. 10, at 0.30 a.m.) A further attempt to settle the Port Kembla pig iron dispute will be begun to-morrow, with a conference between waterside officials, the Trades Union Council and the Federal Attorney-general (Mr R. G Menzies). SYDNEY WOOL SALES SYDNEY, Jan. 9. (Received Jan. 10, at 0.30 a.m.) At the wool sales 11,323 bales were offered and 10,070 sold, while 745 were disposed of privately. Competition was , well sustained to-day from Yoi’kshire and the Continent, with moderate support from Australian mills and Japan. Greasy merino sold to 17d.
The average price of wool in Sydney last week was £l3 Is lOd a bale, or 10.7 d per lb.
