PENINSULA COUNTY AFFAIRS
ro THE EDITOR Sir,—ln regard to the above 1 would like to ask when the council is going to wake up to the dangerous condition of the road round Wicklille Bay. This road is only Bft, or 9ft wide, with a bank on one side and sea walk on the other, with rounding sharp befjflas most of the time with a clear vision of about 30ft only. I see by the report of the last meeting that when the Public Works Department wrote asking if it was prepared to help the department improve this road, the council in its wisdom just turned the letter down on the old plea of no funds. And yet, they have squandered between £4OO and £SOO of public money on what is known as Kinnaird’s road, all to provide a road to drive dry stock over. The safety of the public means little to the members of the council judging by the way they turned down the proposition of the Public Works Department. The trouble is that about half the members have never driven a car and know little of the needs of modern traffic, while the other members who own and drive cars have good roads to their own gates, so don’t worry about the rest of the ratepayers who are foolish enough to live in the backblocks. I think if the chairman, in whose riding the Wickliffe Bay road is, had to use it every time he went out with his car, as the residents over here have to do. then there would be something done very soon, as one does not like risking his own life, but anything is good enough for the other fellow.—l am. etc.. Ratepayer.
