THE VICTORIAN DROUGHT STATE IN PARCHED CONDITION MELBOURNE, Jan. 6. Owing to the prolonged absence of rain, water restrictions will be enforced in the metropolitan area from Sunday. The whole of Victoria is in a parched condition, and live stock is suffering from a shortage of feed and water. MUNITION FACTORIES SATISFACTORY PRODUCTION MELBOURNE, Jan. 7. The Minister of Defence (Mr G. A. Street), referring to the work of the Government munition factories, said that rapid strides were being made towards the attainment of national self-sufficiency in the production of munitions, FIRE IN SYDNEY A MAN ARRESTED SYDNEY, Jan. 8. (Received Jan. 9, at 1 a.m.) A fire in the city danger zone, “ The Arcade,” to-day caused damage amounting to £15,000, A man has been arrested for breaking and entering and arson.
