ROYAL CHRISTMAS CARDS

BALMORAL CASTLE SCENE FLOWER-EDGED LAWN (From Our Own Correspondent) (By Air Mail) LONDON, Dec. 2. Christmas cards chosen by the King and Queen, Queen Mary, and other members of the Royal Family are ready for delivery. The King and Queen have chosen a view of the gardens at Balmoral Castle taken in natural colour photography. The card, inscribed “ Balmoral 1938,” shows the formal garden of the castle, with various flowers in a profusion of coloured blooms edged by the lawn, and backed bv tall trees.

QUEEN MARY’S ROSE GARDEN Queen Mary’s card depicts a rose garden in flower with red, white and pink blooms surrounding a picturesque old sundial. It is reproduced from the oripi lal painting by Miss Theresa Sylvester Stannard. The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester have chosen a view of St. James’s Palace, after the original by Michael Reilly. “A Christmas Song ” is the title of the painting by Miss Doris Zinkeisen on the cards sent by the Duke and Duchess of Kent. It depicts a young woman in wideskirted gown singing with outstretched arms. The only “ Christmassy ” scene is that chosen by the Princess Royal, whose card is after an original by Mr Alexander Macßride, entitled “On the Road to Cairngorm from Coylum Bridge, Aviemore.” It shows a wintry road, with snow-covered houses and tall fir trees.
