The latest reports state that 150 persons were killed and 300 injured in the Chisinau train smash. Many of the injured are not expected to live. It is estimated that each passenger train was carrying 1500 people. They were mostly going to Christmas festivities.

The engines collided head-on on a single line at full speed. Hundreds of injured lay screaming under the wreckage for many hours before it was possible to extricate them.
