THE LEGACY
TO THE EDITOR
Sir, —The Prime Minister in his late interviews has been harping on the legacy left by his predecessors. I wonder if he and his party know that 100 years ago this country was only known to a few whalers, and in the short period of a century our early settlers, by hard work and thrift, have built up this beautiful country to what it is to-day. We have roads, railways, telephones, telegraphs, harbours, lighthouses from the North Cape to Stewart Island, and from east to west on both North and South Islands.
When the National Party went out of office it left a splendid reserve in London to meet the overseas liabilities of the Dominion —and this after the worst depression over the whole world since the European War. The present party has been in power three years, with record prices . for overseas produce; but with its extravagant waste and mismanagement has brought this bright little country to tne verge of bankruptcy.—l am. etc.. Just an Old Fogey.
