OFFICIAL FORECAST CHANGEABLE AND COOL The following is the official weather forecast: — Though Tuesday's depression has passed off, pressure has remained low over the Dominion. An anti-cyclone is centred west of Tasmania, but is making little progress southward. Indications are for: — Winds.—West to south predominating, mostly light to moderate, but strong at times in most places and rising to gale in some exposed positions. Seas.—New Zealand waters: Rather rough to rough on the West Coast, north of East Cape, and at times in Cook Strait; otherwise slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong south-westerly winds, with rather rough to rough seas. Weather. Changeable, with occasional rain in most districts, but more especially in the South Island; temperatures moderate to cool. The day was fine, with a cloudy sky and a moderate to fresh westerly wind. The maximum temperature was 72 degrees. The barometric pressure rose slightly, the reading at 5 p.m. being 29.75 inches. WELLINGTON. Dec. 21. The weather to-day was fair, with a north-westerly wind, which freshened about noon. Temperatures, though cool in the morning, rose rapidly in the afternoon, the maximum being 63.9 degrees. At 3.30 p.m. the barometer reading was 29.46 inches. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 21. The weather was overcast and unsettled to-day, with a light north-east breeze. Light rain began to fall in the late afternoon. The maximum temperature was 59.9 degrees.
