March 2.—Auckland Croquet 'Vssncia tion Tournament, at Auckland. March 2.—Taranaki Annual I’ourna ment. at New Plymouth. March 10.—Gold and Silver Medals, at Auckland SHIELD MATCHES The weather on Tuesday, after 10 а. was line enough to have played the round set down for that day, but matches were postponed, owing to a number of circumstances. First, there were some lawns which had not recovered from the flood of Friday. Others reported that their lawns were so saturated and spongy that it was impossible to get them cut, and one club at least was unable to. field a team, meaning a six-point win to its opponent without play, a very unsatisfactory position. And last, but not least, the weather forecast at 8 o’clock was bad, further rain bding predicted. So all items combined to spell “postponement.” There is no doubt it is a difficult matter to decide at 8.30 a.m. what the weather for the day will be, but so long as the majority of clubs’ vote for whole-day Interclub matches, so long will they have to put up with decisions that do not work out for the day as anticipated. A half-day Ls much easier to predict. In looking through the schedule of remaining matches, however, “Clips” can see nothing to hinder two days being worked into one by a little rearrangement of grounds, and this would allow one or two of these postponed rounds to be played. Actually, the A’s have had one postponement, the B’s have had two, and the Cs three. So no doubt the Match Committee will give this matter due consideration. The full programme arranged allows for eight matches for each A Grade team, eight for each B Grade, and eigm for each C Grade, and so to be deprived of two or three games m the scries makes rather a poor competition. The weather being fine, games were played, and a competition (hitting the stick) was won by Miss Godwin. PERSONAL Local players will be pleased to hear that Mrs W. Corbett, of Invercargill (ex-Opoho and Punga player), who recently underwent an operation, is making a good recovery and is at present recuperating in Central Otago. Mrs S. J.
