CANADIAN PROVINCES

AN ALLEGED CONSPIRACY MOVE AGAINST PRIME MINISTER OTTAWA, Dec. 12. A plot to oust the Prime Minister, Mr Mackenzie King, through an alliance between the Premier of Ontario, Mr Mitchell Hepburn, and the Premier of Quebec, Mr Maurice Duplpssis. was alleged by the Transport Minister, Mr C. D. Howe, and the Labour Minister, Mr Norman Rogers, as the development of the .feud between the eastern provinces and the Prime Minister over the dominion's refusal to sanction the export of electric power to the United States and the alleged favouritism of the Dominion Government towards the agricultural provinces in the west. Denying the conspiracy, Mr Hepburn stated thjat a section of the Liberal Party had long been convinced that the party leadership was drifting and uncertain and impracticable. He would not lead the revolt at the next election, but would support it. The Prime Minister, in endorsing the plot charges, declared that the opposition of Mr Hepburn and Mr Duplessis had been tolerated for long enough. It was time for a showdown. The issue must be the first matter before the party caucus when Parliament met in January.
