PAGAN RULERS

NAZI METHODS CONDEMNED TREATMENT OF MINORITIES MONTREAL, Nov. 30. (Received Dec. 1, at 5 p.m.) “The actions of Hitler in persecuting helpless minorities constitute a striking example of what a Godless Government will do when it reverts to paganism.” stated Cardinal Villeneuve. addressing the Board of Trade, Cardinal Villeneuve condemned Nazism and Fascism as the enslavement of man. The Church was not blind to the dangers of Fascism, but nevertheless it was not fair to place Mussolini and Hitler on the same moral plane, especially since Mussolini’s contribution at Munich towards averting wan t was not within the sphere of the Church o condemn or to approve any form of government, but it had a duty to protest against any system violating Christianity. Thus the Church was neutral towards the Social Credit and Liberal and Conservative parties. The rich and the poor must dwell harmoniously. If the workers were encouraged to look towards ownership the gulf between vast wealth and poverty would be partly bridged.
