STABBED BY A FISH INQUEST ON GIRL’S DEATH (Per United Press Association) THAMES, Dec. 1. An inquest was held this morning concerning the death of Miss Jessie Merle Laing. who died from the effects of a slab by a fish when bathing off the coast near Thames last dayThe coroner returned a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence that death was caused by stabbing by a saltwater fish, believed to be a stingray. FALL INTO DOCK Alexander McKenzie, who resides in Main road, Sawyers’ Bay, was admitted to the Dunedin Hospital - at 5.30 p.m. yesterday suffering from head injuries and the effects of near drowning. He fell into the dock at Port Chalmers while working there. HEAD INJURIES AND SHOCK Head injuries and shock were suffered by Eric Stephenson, a public works employee, when he fell from a power pole at Halfway Bush yesterday. He was admitted to the Public Hospital at 10.55 yesterday morning.
