BURNSIDE STOCK SALE

INCREASED FAT CATTLE ENTRY FAT CATTLE Several consignments from North Otago and Canterbury were responsible for an exceptionally large yarding of fat cattle, numbering 480 head, at yesterday's Burnside stock sale. Included in the entry were several trucks of prime heavy bullocks, also a fair number of cows and heifers of similar description. The bulk of the entry, however, consisted of medium classes, with the usual tail end of unfinished sorts. Owing to this fact, butchers were bare of supplies. At the commencement values were at their best point, but after immediate requirements had been filled a general decline was noticeable. Compared with values at the last sale, prime heavy bullocks on the average declined to the extent of 35s to 40s per head, medium sorts fully 40s, while cows and heifers showed a greater drop in value. STORE CATTLE There was a large yarding numbering 350 head of store cattle. Included in the entry were some well-bred three and four-year-old station cattle, which met with fairly good competition at slightly reduced rates compared with the extreme prices ruling recently. Best bullocks realised from £9 15s tc £ll 12s 6d, yearling steers £5 Is, wellbred two and a-half vear old heifers from £5 Is to £6 10s. Vealers, whico were in over supply, met with a slacker demand at reduced rates.
