MODERN PALESTINE

PROGRESS IN RECENT YEARS JEWISH LECTURER'S MISSION (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 28. The transformation of large areas of swamp and other useless land into fertile citrus fruit farm land, the establishment of secondary industries and the general modernisation of Palestine were described today by Dr Benzion Shein, of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, who arrived by the Awatea on a visit to New Zealand. Dr Shein is a medical research worker and is on a world lecture tour, undertaken at the request of the authorities of the Zionist movement. The purpose of his tour is to keep Jews throughout the world informed of what is taking place in Palestine and the progress that has been made in recent years. He is to lecture in New Zealand and is to leave for the United States on January 24. In an interview Dr Shein contrasted the present state of Palestine with Palestine as it was prior to 1920, and expressed a hope that in spite of the recent troubles the future would provide an opportunity for continuation of the peaceful settlement of the country.
