ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY COUNCIL'S MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the council of the Otago Acclimatisation Society which was held last night, was attended by Messrs W. G. Reid (chairman), S. F. Ahum, C. A. Wilson, G. E. Turner, T. Long H. G. Williams. S. H. Barnes, W A. Raffills, R. Fountain, J. K. Begg, A. J. White and D. M. Hunter. Shooting Regulations The Game Committee recommended that an addition should be made to the society's regulations regarding shooting rights in lakes for the 1939 season, providing that no person'should take game on the first three days of the open season while occupying any stand hide, 100 or position commonly used by duck shooters which had been claimed by another licence-holder in accordance with the following, provisions:—A stand might be claimed by planting there any time after noon on April 8, 1939, a stake with a board attached, showing the name and address of the claimant, and the number of his licence; no person should claim more than one stand: no stand within 100 yards of one claimed by another person should be claimed except with the other person's consent. It would be necessary ; however, for a person to occupy his stand within half an hour of sunrise on each of those days to have priority. Nothing in the clause would affect the rights of owners or occupiers of land from shooting on their own lands. The chairman of the committee (Mr Turner) said the proposed addition was very much in line with what had been done by other societies, and he thought it would mean an improvement. The suggestion was adopted. The Game Season The Game Committee in its report recommended that the open season for game should apply to the whole of the Otago district, as during last season; that it should open on the first Saturday in May; and that it be the same as last year, with -the following exceptions:—Quail to be two months June and July; chukor two months, June and July; cock peasants, month of May from first Saturday, with a daily limit of two; pukeko, one fortnight from opening day.—lt was decided to inform the Department of Internal Affairs that
