OFFICIAL FORECAST OCCASIONAL RAIN PROBABLE The following is the official weather forecast: — An intense anti-cyclone is centred south-east of the Chatham Islands, while an extensive depression covers eastern Australia and most of the Tasman Sea. A low pressure centre appears to be developing west of Auckland. Indications are for:— Winds.—South-easterly about the Cook Strait area, but otherwise east to north prevailing, force moderate to strong. „,. Seas.—New Zealand waters: Slight to moderate south of Farewell Spit, rough north of East Cape, elsewhere rather rough to rough at times with a moderate swell. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong, south-east to north-east winds prevailing; seas rough in the northern and central portions, moderate in the southern. Weather.—Cloudy, sultry and hazy, with occasional rain in most districts, but more especially the South Island, where some scattered heavy falls are probable. WEATHER IN DUNEDIN Dull and showery conditions prevailed in Dunedin yesterday.. There was a strong north-easterly wind and the -barometer showed a rising tendency in the evening, but at midnight was falling slowly, when it registered 30.35 inches.
