SICK PAY

EFFECT OF SECURITY ACT OFFER OF CO-OPERATION (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 21. The provision of sick pay m the light of the benefits which would be payable under the Social Security Act Is to be the subject of a report prepared by the general manager (Mr R. H. Bartley) for' the Auckland Eiectric Power Board. This decision was made by the board in committee and confirmed at its meeting to-day. The secretary (Mr N. M. Speer) reported that it would be necessary to consider the board’s arrangements regarding sick pay and similar provisions. as under the Social Security Act certain fixed benefits were payable to employees, and obviously this would have a bearing on the board’s policy Provision was also now made for the age benefit to be payable at the age of 60 and it would be necessary for the board to determine whether all employees should be automatically retired upon reaching that age so that they might be replaced with vounger men possibly unemployed. It was decided to communicate with he Minister of Finance (Mr Nash) suggesting that the board would be happv to co-operate in the payment of sick and any other benefits which might conveniently be administered through the board. An indication was sought of the Government's intention m relation to the retirement of employee!: on reaching the age of 60
