CRICKET CAPTAINS
"BORN. NOT MADE" NEW ZEALAND'S NEED (Per United Press association) * CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 4. As T. C. Lowry and M. L. Page would be available no longer for the captaincy of a New Zealand cricket team it would be necessary to find another captain, said Mr D. E. Wanklyn, chairman of the Management Committee, at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council here to-night. First class captains were more often born than made,/ but experience did count a great deal, he said. He had noticed that there seemed to be a general tendency not to allow young players of definite promise sufficient opportunity to gain experience in captaincy. One saw an unfortunate tendency to consider age as one of the first essentials of a captain. This was definitely not so, and he suggested for the consideration of the administrators of cricket that youthful promise which would be cultivated by experience was of more value with respect to captaincy than mere years.
