SERIOUS CHARGES
MARSEILLES POLICE CHIEF INSPECTOR'S ARREST > LONDON, Oct. 26. Dramatic developments are expected as a sequel to the arrest of Chief Inspector Jules Ratzkowski, and the suspension of three senior detectives, in Marseilles. • High officials of the Ministry of the Interior have gone to Marseilles, to investigate. There are, first, allegations of white slavery and corruption by'the police morality squad; secondly, allegations of illicit gambling, including the use of gambling machines in cafes and on footpaths in open disregard" of the law; thirdly, charges of the'sale ofbogus medical certificates conferring exemption from military duties on star professional footballers. The activities of 150 Marseilles detectives are being investigated, The men suspehded include the head of the morality squad. M. Thenoz. Prominent politicians are alleged also to be involved. Ratzkowski is charged with assist-, mg an Italian agent, Bellavia. who is alleged to be rounding up antiFascist Italians in Paris. ~. An official statement issued last night says:—"Ratzkowski admitted using his influence to enable Bellavia to re-enter Prance after expulsion, and is alleged to have received £ 150 for this service."
