She should reach Auckland on November 23, and be here about December 10, REMUEBA’S DEPARTURE The New Zealand Shipping Company has received advice that the departure of the ' Remuera from Auckland has been postponed until noon on Tuesday, November 1. BUOY AT NAPIER ALTERED The Auckland Rock lighted buoy In Napier roadstead vf*ll shortly be removed to a temporary position during dredging operations, states the Marino Department In a notice to mariners. The new position, which will be temporary, Is;—Latitude 39 degrees 28 minutes 15 seconds south, longitude 176 degrees 55 minutes 9 seconds east. Masters must iiass westward of the buoy before coming on to the line of the wharf leading beacons.

Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Australia. She Is due at Auckland on November 13. NEW YORK SAILING The New Zealand Shipping Company lias received advice that the A. and A. Line steamer City of Manchester lias been fixed to leave New York on December 15 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. She 1s due at Auckland on January 15. NAPIER STAR AT BALBOA The Blue Star Line has received cabled advice that the Napier Star reached Balboa on Tuesday morning. She left Auckland on September 28 for London, via the Panama canal. LIGHT ON HAWERA WATER TOWER In a notice to mariners, the Marino Department advises that the time of extinguishing the light on the Hawera water tower has been altered from 0.30 a.m. to sunrise. UNITED STATES SHIPBUILDING MERGER The Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporation, Ltd.. have purchased for approximately 9,320,000 dollars In cash all the shipbuilding and repairing facilities of United Shipyards, Inc., Including the Staten Island works at Mariners Harbour, the Morse and Crane plants In Brooklyn, and the Fletcher plant at Hoboken. New Jersey. The Bethlehem concern have not acquired the United Shipyards' accounts receivable or assumed their outstanding liabilities, but have agreed to complete certain work now In progress. SHIPPING AT MONTREAL Statistics issued by the Canadian National Harbours Board show that arrivals st Montreal (Inland and ocean-going) during the first six months of the year (from the opening of navigation In April until July 1) totalled 1828 vessels of 2,806,433 tons net, compared with 1504 of 2,519,698 tons In the corresponding period last year. Tonnage cleared numbered 1795 vessels of 2,682.851 tons, against 1458 of 2,389,040 tons. June proved an unusually active month, 1535 vessels using the port, compared with 1375 vessels In June, 1937. The expansion In traffic Is stated to bo primarily the result of the large movement of American grain passing through the port. Outward-bound cargo to July 1 totalled 1,994,373 tons this year, against 1,726,108 tons last year, while Inward cargo at 3,394,875 tons, shows an Increase of 579,629. Passenger traffic through the port has fallen off slightly from last year's figures. To the end of Juno 16,130 passengers landed and 20,774 embarked, compared with 15,650 and 23,021 respectively In the same period of 1937. LONDON’S RECORD YEAR Two outstanding records were made by the Port of London Authority, in the 12 months ended March 31, last. The annual report shows that both the net tonnage of ships arriving and departing and the tonnage of cargo Imported and exported reached the highest, totals ever known In tho history of the port. The figure for arrivals and departures was 62,645,758 tons net, which compared with 62,151,310 tons a year ago and with 252,576,755 tons 10 years ago—an Increase of approximately 10.000,000 tons In a decade. The Imports handled amounted to 36,701,160 tons, an Increase of 4 per cent, over the previous year’s total of 35,276,733 tons, while the exports reached 7,939,484 tons, or 4.5 per cent, more than In 1936-37. MEXICAN SHIPBUILDING PLANS It Is reported that three 12,000-ton passenger and cargo steamers, will shortly be built for regular service between Mexican Gulf ports arid Spain, the French Riviera, and Northern Italy. The plans for these ships were recently presented to the Foreign Commerce Commission by Mexican Consuls In France and Italy. Their cost Is estimated at 8,000,000 pesos, and it Is proposed that they be built and operated by a private company.
