WORK OF COMMITTEES Reports to be presented by committees to next week’s meeting of the City Council include the following:— Works Department The Works Committee will recomment as follows; That arrangements be now made to finalise the purchase from the Children’s Rest Home (Inc.) of the strip of land 20 links in width and containing 9.9 poles approximately along the Highgate frontage to the Rest Home property, being Lots 14/19, Townshin of Linden. It was arranged in 1933 that this land should be purchased when the council was ready to carry out the work of widening the street at this' block, and as the sum of £690 has now been provided in the petrol tax allocations for the completion of the ’road work, it is desired that the purchase of the land should be completed, and charged to petrol tax. House Numbering That plans prepared by the city engineer showing proposed house numbering for Pennant street, Gardner street and Mornington road, be approved. These streets have not previously been numbered by the council. The committee will report as follows; Rattray Street Weighbridge The quotation of Messrs W and T. Avery (N.Z.), Ltd., in the sum of £62 10s, has been accepted for the overhaul and repair of the Rattray street weighbridge to bring it up to the regulation requirements. When this work, and the alteration to the street paving in the vicinity which has been authorised, have been completed. the bridge will be in good order and will comply with the requirements of the Government Inspector of Weights and Measures. Right-of-way The application of Mr W. G. B. Millow for the council’s consent to the creation of a right-af-way over part of the entrance to Lot 2 of subdivision of Lot 14 D.P. 1844, St. James Park, fronting Grey street, has been granted, subject to the registered oroprietor of this allotment giving the usual undertaking that he will form, metal (or. at the option of the council, asphalt), light, drain and maintain this right-of-way to the"satisfaction of the council. Instructions to Engineer The city engineer has been instructed to act in respect of the following matters: — (a) The redecking of a bridge over the earth channel at Every street to give access to private pro-

perty, at the expense of the owner of the property concerned. The estimated cost is £1 ss. (b) Alterations to an intake tank for storm water in the channel at Lancefield street, at an estimated cost of £lO, chargeable to the contingency vote. (c) The provision of iron bars across the open channel in the bed of the Glen Road creek to intercept rubbish before it reaches the cov-ered-in portion of the creek. The estimated cost is £4 10s. Reserves Committee The Reserves Committee will report as follows: — The applications from cricket organisations and clubs for the granting of playing areas on the recreation reserves during the current summer season have now been dealt with, and a total of 64 wickets has been allotted, as follows:--Wickets Otago Cricket Association 19 Otago Boys’ Cricket Association 1^ Otago Cricket League .. .. 14 Otago Women’s Cricket Association 5 Sundry affiliated clubs . . 9 64 The charges for the various wickets will be as hitherto, viz.:— *No. 1 ground, Logan Park, and No 1 ground, Tonga Park, £2O in each case; other grounds, £6 5s per wicket. For the Otago Women’s Cricket Association the charge is £ 1 6s 3d per wicket. Unaffiliated clubs pay £3 2s 6d per wicket. No charge is made to the Otago Boys’ Cricket Association. In addition, the Otago Cricket League pays an amount of £7 10s for the use of a pavilion on the Princes street side of the Oval, and the Women’s Cricket Association pays £2 10s for the use of a pavilion on the Anderson’s Bay side of the Oval.
