KINDERGARTEN MOTHERS’ CLUBS
COMBINED EXHIBITION OF WORK The annual exhibition by the Mothers’ Clubs of«the six kindergartens in Dunedin was held on Wednesday afternoon. This is always a popular event, and the spirit of friendly rivalry among the members of the different clubs induces them to bring forward examples of excellent work. In opening the exhibition Mrs Guy Batham (acting president of the Dunedin Free Kindergarten Association) heartily congratulated the clubs on this year’s show of work, which covered a wide range. She was glad, she said, to see that enthusiasm was as strong as ever, in spite of the death of Miss N. Dutton, founder of the Combined Mothers’ Union. The exhibition, which was well patronised, comprised sections in knitting and crochet work, articles made from something old into something new, a toy section, and a very large baking section. It may be noted here that prize money does not go to the individual, but to the club, and hence a splendid team spirit is apparent throughout. It was decided by the Kindergarten Mothers’ Clubs that they should have a memorial to M,iss Dutton in the form of a silver rose bowl, and that this should go to the club which gained the highest number of points in proportion to the number of entries.
The judges were: Mrs Jennings (knitting and crochet work). Miss Tuck (needlework). Mrs Cameron (baking section), and Mr C. O. McKellar Hoys marie by the fathers).
