GENERAL ELECTION ECHOES

111 rut KiirroH Sir,—l had thought the election was over, but by the letters in the pape’it looks to be beginning again. The Opposition is still pecking at the returned party, but it was not smart enough to pick that Labour was going to fly in. As it has no hope now it will just have to look and listen. It evidently did Mr J. A. Lee a lot of good, as he polled the largest number of votes in the Dominion. It can see now that it does not do to make too sure of anything in this old world. As for the talk about the heckling at the addresses, the Labour crowd was out in the open anyway, and did not worx in an underhanded way. “ Graduate ” says In yesterday’s Daily Times that a vast crowd voted Labour because of the 30s pension. They most certainly voted for the people who had their interests at heart —not for a party without a heart. Why did " Graduate ’ vote National? It was in case he would have to touch his pocket for an extra 4d in the pound—not to help pensioners and others, but to help himself later on. He also says that human nature showed its weakness. It was not so weak, though, as to vote for the Hamil-ton-Forbes-Coates party. Instead of the National Party having another twelve months to see the Labour Government ruin the country, it will have just three twelves. Then the Nationalists will not see Labour ruin the country, although would love to do so. In replying during the campaign to "Now Then,” I mentioned that for the four votes in his home Labour would get twenty-four, and I was correct.—l am, etc., Labourite. Dunedin. October 21.
